Ice fishing continues with lake travel becoming excellent. Wheeled houses are able to be moved on and off the lake very easy. The Crossing and Sundstrom’s Landing are providing excellent easy access. Perch are still being caught in good numbers. Seems smaller baits have been working best tipped with a wax worm. Size of perch has been smaller than average, but sorting will allow you good numbers of nice fish. Walleyes are continuing to bite, but mostly in the golden morning hour and golden afternoon hour. Larger rattle baits tipped with a minnow have produced the best fish, along with buckshots tipped with a minnow. Rattle reels have been very active during the evening hours. Small mouth bass have also become prolific. Seems as the ice gets later the small mouth have really started to bite. Don’t be surprised if you catch several nice fish!
Moving later into the year i suspect guys will start targeting larger pike in the shallows. If we can get past some of the brutal cold tip up fishing should be starting to turn on.
Weather this week is looking cold with many fronts moving through the area.
Good luck and tight lines!
