Hello and welcome to FishAshtabula.com, this site is dedicated to providing realistic and up to date information about the lake and all things fishing.
Fishing this week has been above average. The walleye bite has been consistent with the break in the weather this week. Fish being reported are in the 15-20″ range and make for some great table fair. Some larger fish have been reported as well. Depths range from 6ft to 18ft of water on the flats. Don’t be afraid to try the shallow water!!! The best fishing has been during the golden morning hour and last half hour before its dark. Ripping raps and flashy spoons have been the ticket tipped with a minnow head. Dead sticks have also played a key part in the bite. Moving to the edges of the river channel once the sun is up has turned up some mid day bites as well. Don’t be afraid to drill holes! White bass have also been prevalent with the walleyes as well.
Perch have been spotty but are mostly being caught in the main channels. Most fish are smaller but with some patience you can sort through them and end up with a good size range of fish. We saw several fish in the 13″ range caught.
Ice conditions continue to be spotty. The slush has hardened but its still possible to find pockets. Travel has improved overall. Keep in mind that ice depth varies from 10″ to 24″ across the lake. No ice is safe ice, travel with caution.
Best of luck this weekend, The weather looks like it is going to straighten out for us.
